We will navigate ourselves around a scenic 3.5 mile walk, through typical Chiltern countryside of field and woodland paths, using navigation techniques that will help you plan your own interesting walks around your local area, and do them without fear of getting lost (most of the time). During the walk we will also introduce some compass techniques, which, while not usually necessary for Chiltern walks, will definitely be worth becoming familiar with, for walking in more remote areas.
Participants will need to bring the OS Explorer Map (1/25000) 172, Chiltern Hills East, available from W H Smiths and other high street stores. Those who want to embrace compass skills will also need a compass. The Silva range of compasses is recommended. You will need to be properly dressed for a country walk in our unpredictable weather. Participants need to bring enough fluids for the afternoon. The nearest public toilets are in Bourne End, approximately 1.5 miles from the meeting point.
