We will start with a ranger-led walk around the beautiful Barton Hills National Nature Reserve, a landscape of rolling chalk hills and woods with spectacular views. Find out how Barton Hills came to look as it does, as we take a step back to the Cretaceous period when it was under the sea. We will then ‘Meet the Farmer’ for a behind the scenes look at the adjoining Barton Hills Farm and its environmentally friendly farming methods which contribute to the richness of wildlife here. The walk will finish with refreshments and local produce tasting, including Bedfordshire Clangers and the fabulous range of Mrs Middleton's award-winning cold pressed rape seed oils and dressings made at Barton Hill Farm.
There is a half hour break between the nature reserve walk and the farm walk for lunch. Please bring your own lunch. At the end of the walk we shall finish in the church hall where there will be refreshments (locally produced cake, tea, coffee etc.,.) as well as sampling of local produce including from Barton Hills Farm. Toilets in the church hall.
Steph Wilson (Reserve Manager) and Steve & Dean (Natural England Volunteers) will be leading the walk at Barton Hills National Nature Reserve
