Butties, Birds and Beautiful Views - A walk from The Alford Arms (ref 35)

Join us for a bacon butty & cuppa (on the house) at The Alford Arms before venturing out into the lovely Gade Valley. The walk starts out along a Roman Road, passes a buddhist monastery and through the water meadows beside the River Gade. Along the way there are outstanding views over the valley and the opportunity to spot the local wildlife.

Berkhamsted train station is 2.1 miles and has a taxi rank outside for the 5 min journey to the pub.

Accessibility

Easy walking on good paths and quiet lanes. There are 3 steady climbs and one steeper incline from the pub. One easy stile and plenty of gates. Possibly a little muddy after rain.

Further Information

Please bring suitable footwear and clothing for the conditions, water, snacks and simple first aid kit. Toilets are available at The Alford Arms. There will be a vegetarian / vegan alternative available at the start. Water bottles filling station. Walk returns to The Alford Arms in time to enjoy lunch or a drink.

The Chiltern Society is dedicated to protecting 650 square miles of woodlands and valleys, including London's closest designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Alford Arms is hidden in an unspoilt valley on the edge of Ashridge Forest.
