Join Martin Pounce, a long time resident of Amersham, in a short woodland walk from the station. Emerging from the beech wood, you will see Old Amersham spread out beneath you, with its medieval street plan surrounded by fields. Martin Pounce will point out and explain the unique features of the town.
Martin has researched many aspects of the town and is one of the Museum's Tudor Walk leaders. He will explain how domination by one of the richest non-noble families prevented the railway being built for more than 50 years and preserved the town in 18th century aspic. There will also be a rare opportunity to see memorials to his family in the Drake Chapel.
There is a fine array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in the Old Town. Toilets are located in Old Amersham car park.
This is a linear walk which allows walkers to explore the town or visit Amersham Museum (admission at a reduced price of £2 for adults, free for children).
Complete Outdoors are our primary sponsors for 2018 & 2019. At their Bourne End (Herts) shop, you will discover all of the equipment, clothing and accessories you need to launch your next expedition into the great outdoors - whether a day's hike close to home, or an assault on the Matterhorn.
Could this be you? We are seeking additional sponsors to enable the festival to continue going from strength to strength - get in touch with AWeiss@chilternsaonb.org if you'd like to know more!
