Checkendon Walk & Lunch

Starting at the Highwayman Inn, Exlade Street, for a pleasant circular walk exploring the woods and landscape around the attractive village of Checkendon. Finish with an optional lunch at the Highwayman Inn (must be booked with ticket).

Fairly easy (some gentle inclines, steps/stiles)


Lunch must be booked with your ticket but paid for on the day.

Meet at the car park of the Inn RG8 0UA GR 659819. Parking is allowed if lunching. If not lunching please park on road.

Bus X39 from Caversham to Woodcote where the walk can be joined. Please contact if you'd like to do this.


2 stiles and minor hills, only steep inclines are steps with handrails each side of the A4074 just after the Oratory School.

Further Information

Optional lunch at The Highwayman Inn dates back to 16th Century and was the Chiltern Society pub of the year in 2015.

2 course lunch for £16.50 - this must be booked with your ticket, but paid for on the day. A menu will be sent to you in advance of the walk. 

Dogs not allowed in the pub.
