Misbourne Valley and the HS2 North Portal (ref 23)

This circular walk is the second of three that will offer the walker the opportunity to view this part of the beautiful Central Chilterns landscape before it changes forever. It will be taking the views across the Misbourne valley and exploring the proposed site of the North Portal where the High Speed Two Railway trains will leave the tunnel.

Meeting arrangements

Meet at the entrance to the library in the High St, Great Missenden HP16 0AL. Parking is available in town car parks. Grid ref: SP894013

Andrew Clark & Keith Hoffmeister of The Chiltern Society. The Chiltern Society is dedicated to protecting 650 square miles of woodlands and valleys, including London’s closest designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Public Transport Links

On a Saturday Bus 48 runs between High Wycombe and Great Missenden. Great Missenden is also served by main line trains to Marylebone and Aylesbury.


Mostly on good surfaces which can be muddy at times after wet weather. Possibly some lane walking depending on access and a total ascent of 180m.

Further Information

Please bring suitable footwear and clothing for the conditions, water, snacks and simple first aid kit. Children are welcome so long as they can cope with the distance and grade.
